Dr. Groves is the first Professional Geologist to be awarded both the SEG Penrose Gold Medal and the SGA Newmont Gold he has authored or co-authored over 500 papers and is widely published on the subject of Archaen evolution (a vital component when looking for host for gold). He has been President of the Geological Society of Australia and is President of the European Society of Economic Geologists.
David Groves was previously a Professor of Economic Geology and Director of University Western Australia's Centre for Global Metallogeny. He is also Emeritus Professor attached to the Centre for Exploration Targeting.
Dr. Groves' major expertise lies in economic geology, the formation of mineral deposits, particularly gold, and conceptual targeting of mineral deposits. Professor Groves has had a distinguished career as a geologist and educator and has been honoured as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. During his academic career, Dr. Groves authored and co-authored over 500 papers. He was President of the Geological Society of Australia, the Society of Economic Geologists, and SGA (European Society of Economic Geologists). He has received eleven medals for his research, including the Silver Medal of the Society of Economic Geologists, the Geological Association of Canada Medal, and the Haddon King Medal of the Australian Academy of Science. Professor Groves' publications continue to influence the way academic and mining industry personnel understand Earth processes world-wide, particularly in relation to mineralization and conceptual exploration.
